Description

Upgrade root canal obturation with the Woodpecker Fi-P, a cordless heating and packing instrument designed for fast, controlled, and efficient gutta-percha downpacking. Available in black or white, the Fi-P combines rapid heating, precise temperature control, an ergonomic horizontal design, and left- or right-handed operation for a streamlined endodontic workflow.

The Fi-P reaches operating temperature in as little as 0.2 seconds, helping clinicians cut, soften, and compact gutta-percha efficiently during warm vertical condensation procedures. Its 0.35 mm pre-bent tip is designed to reach deeper into narrow root canals, while four selectable temperature settings allow compatibility with different gutta-percha materials and clinical techniques.

When used together with the Woodpecker Fi-G Backfill Gun or Woodpecker Fi-E Automated Delivery Pen, the Fi-P becomes part of a complete warm obturation system for downpacking and backfilling the root canal.

Complete Obturation Workflow

The Woodpecker Fi-P functions as the heating and downpacking component of the obturation workflow. For a complete warm vertical filling procedure, it may be paired with the Woodpecker Fi-G Backfill Gun for thermoplasticized gutta-percha injection or the Woodpecker Fi-E Automated Delivery Pen.

Together, these systems allow the clinician to perform gutta-percha cutting, apical downpacking, incremental backfilling, and vertical compaction in a streamlined cordless workflow.

Instructions

Root Canal Filling Procedure

The Fi-P can be used as part of a warm vertical obturation technique together with a vertical plugger and a backfill device such as the Fi-G.
1. Select an appropriate master gutta-percha cone according to the prepared root canal.
2. Choose the appropriate Fi-P heating tip. Place the tip into the canal and establish a working position approximately 4–7 mm short of the apical foramen. Mark the penetration depth and select a corresponding plugger.
3. Apply the selected sealer to the master gutta-percha cone and insert the cone into the prepared root canal.
4. Insert the Fi-P tip into the canal, activate the heating button, and cut away the excess coronal gutta-percha.
5. Reinsert the tip, activate heating, and advance through the softened gutta-percha until reaching approximately 4–7 mm from the apical foramen. Heating should generally not continue for more than approximately 3 seconds at one location. Keep the tip moving during heating to reduce prolonged heat exposure to the canal wall.
6. Release the heating button while maintaining apical pressure with the tip for approximately 10 seconds.
7. Activate the heating button for approximately 1 second, then quickly withdraw the Fi-P tip.
8. Use a vertical plugger to compact the remaining apical gutta-percha.
9. Prepare the canal for backfilling with a compatible heated gutta-percha delivery system such as the Woodpecker Fi-G.
10. Inject heated gutta-percha into the canal while gradually withdrawing the injection needle. Incremental filling is recommended rather than filling the entire remaining canal in a single injection. The manufacturer's procedure recommends increments of approximately 4 mm or less.
11. Compact each injected increment with a vertical plugger.
12. Repeat the backfilling and compaction process until the root canal filling is completed.
